Week Three: Residency at Beatrice Wood Center

I am officially just over half way through my internship and have so much to share. I worked on my website and blogs and with everything ready to roll, I am live so you can catch up with what I have been doing.

This week is a continuation of working in the studio all day and working towards a body of work to leave with the Beatrice Wood Center for the Arts. Also, Kevin Wallace, the Center's Director, and I have had deep discussions about my creative practice, why I make work, ceramic history and how these intertwine.

I have these moments of realization that I am working within the space of a great woman who was before us, Beatrice Wood. It is the constant little details of looking over and seeing her idle wheel with her last pots to the fact that I am using her tools to create my work. There are hand carved spoons that were Beatrice Woods that I am using in my work. I will carry this process and experience with me forever and can say it has changed my life.

This is a shout out of gratitude and thankfulness for everyone who has and is supporting this journey with me. This list is HUGE and I thank you ALL from the bottom of my heart!

In my last blog, I was working on my tool sculptures and here is an image of one of the finished pieces fired in Beatrice Wood’s kiln.
